Individualised programmes are available for non-native speakers who need an E.S.L (English as a Second Language) input.

Teachers are well qualified and are able to teach from kindergarten to adult level. Our native English speaking teachers are knowledgeable about international curricula. They are experienced in the teaching of their mother tongue as a foreign language and know how to motivate students who are taking time to adjust to a new language and have some gaps in their academic achievement because the learning is taking place in a second or third language.

Flexibility is offered regarding timing and frequency. Sessions can be individual or in a small group and will be based on availability. We relate the course to the student’s level and we use stimulating age appropriate ways to teach English. These sessions are beneficial to students who have not progressed satisfactorily in an emersion programme.

The four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing are integrated into an academic curriculum in secondary students.

Where high levels of language are expected, students can often be at a disadvantage through not having the background knowledge and wide vocabulary of a native speaker. This is addressed by vocabulary extension work linked to literature.

Saturday English Instruction Classes are available for non-English speaking students and entry to classes are based on the student’s performance in the admission test.

In the advanced classes students will be expected to master discussion and debate, present opinions, make informal and formal presentations, and demonstrate persuasive writing.
